I started Wild Heart as "Wild Heart Canvas" while I was in college. On winter break one year, suddenly finding myself with a lot of free time, I thought it might be fun to paint quotes that I liked. It turned out to be popular among my friends, too, and soon I had many requests for others' favorite quotes painted in acrylic on little canvases.

I went back to school. Things got busy. I forgot about crafts for a while. Then one summer when I was living in Arizona I decided to dust off my old crochet skills—my mom and grandma had taught me when I was younger, and I wanted to give it another go. I started working on a Tunisian crochet sweater that never got finished. Instead, I stumbled upon some patterns online for cacti. And that, as they say, was that.

Since that fateful summer I've crocheted hundreds, possibly thousands, of plants—and other things too. Hats. Decorations. Knickknacks. A massive flamingo named François who now lives in my classroom. Cozy, colorful sweaters that I take immense pleasure in wearing. Is there anything better than making something, and then wearing it? The feeling of having a skill and applying it is a satisfaction not comparable to anything else.
